Software
Custom software for your business.
Accounting firms hire me to build software they can't buy off the shelf, and I can do the same for your business. Sometimes it's a tool for a job staff do by hand. Sometimes it's a simpler version of an app that's too complicated for the people using it.
PayRoar · payroll software
Payroll that small business owners can use.
The accountants I work with kept telling me the same thing. Their clients, mostly trades and small crews, find payroll software so full of menus and settings that they give up and hand payroll back to the accountant. So I built a simple one.
You add your staff, run payroll, and it works out every deduction, makes the pay stubs and tells you what to send the CRA. The numbers are checked against the CRA's own calculator. Employees get their own login for their stubs.
More than 50 companies and 250 employees use it, and it calculates over $1 million of payroll every month.
Statement Categorizer · built for Global Tax Corporation
Bank statements, sorted in minutes.
Staff at the firm used to sort client bank statements by hand. Now they drop in a bank or credit card statement, and the tool pulls out every expense, sorts it into a category and totals each one. It uses the firm's own rules first and AI for the rest. The accountant checks the results on one screen, and every answer they give teaches it for next time. The firm uses it heavily.
Client names, account numbers and balances never leave the firm's computer. A full year's statement costs about ten cents of AI.
What I can build for you.
If it's software, ask me. I can probably build it. Some examples:
- Online booking with reminders
- A login for your customers or staff, so each person sees only their own things
- Taking payments online, one-off or monthly
- Quotes, invoices and reports made from your data
- Tools that read statements, receipts or invoices and sort them
- Calculators for quotes, commissions or pricing
- Missed calls answered with an automatic text
- Two systems that don't talk to each other, connected
How it's priced.
You tell me what it needs to do, and we talk it through on a free call. I write a proposal with what I'll build, how long it takes and a fixed price. Half up front, half at launch. While I build it, you test each part as it's done. If you want something new later, it gets its own quote before I build it.
You own the code and every account. After launch, I can keep it running: updates, backups and fixes when something breaks.
Questions.
Will AI see my clients' data?
Only if the job needs AI, and then only the minimum. The tool I built for an accounting firm sends cleaned-up business names and amounts to the AI, and nothing else. Before we start, you get a plain page that says exactly what leaves your computer. A person always has the final say on what the AI suggests.
Can you work with the software we already use?
Usually, yes. If it can export a file, or other programs can connect to it, I can build around it.
Not sure what you need?
Tell me about your business and I'll tell you what I'd do and what it costs. The first call is free: about an hour, in person in Edmonton, or by video or phone.
